Last tuesday we had our 10th Oficial Wine Tasting Meeting, the fourth of 2016. Five guys and four wines: Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Brazil.

For the first time we tried to conduct the choice of the wines in an attempt to have different styles in the glass.

We started with Jorge Rubio Privado Malbec Roble 2012, from Argentina. Typical aromas on the nose referring to caramel and ripe fruits. Maybe too ripe. For my taste, very sweet, almost demi-sec. Fine tannins. It doesn’t draw attention.

Then we went to Familia Deicas Atlántico Sur Tannat 2011. Dark, leather aromas blended with ripe fruits, a bit balsamic. Solid and present tannins. This is a Tannat from Uruguay and you shouln’t expect anything different. This wine have a lack elegance mainly on the nose. Good persistency.

The third wine came from  Valle del Maipo, Chile: Santa Ema Gran Reserva Merlot 2013. Explosive aromas of vanilla and fresh fruits. Medium body, excelent acidity. This is a modern wine, with lots of oak but, listen to me, this is one is delicious. Everybody loved it. Nobody ever drank a Merlot like that. Go for it.

And finally came the Brazilian wine. Província de São Pedro Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 by Routhier & Darricarrére. To be honest I never heard about it before. The philosophy of the winery is to prepare a wine in the old style. Really liked it. Beautiful bright red tending to orange. Bright, really bright! Complex aromas remembering dry fruits, bread and spice. It surprising for me to drink a Cabernet Sauvignon so smooth, specially from Brazil. Good character and excellent balance. Absolutelly different from the Merlot by Santa Ema but much more my kind of wine.
